Abstract:
This is a review essay on the dual approach to applied production analysis. This essay is by necessity eclectic and considers estimation and reliability of technology parameters using profit and cost functions. Its objective is to present a general overwiew where theory, empirical application and policy relevance are considered equally. The essay starts with a presentation of the method and continues with a review of recent experience in applying duality theory to production policy questions.
