Abstract:
Greece has regularly ranked as the country with the highest defence burden in NATO and the European Union. At the same time the Greek economy has in last years exhibited some of the lowest rates of growth in Europe. It is possible that the high levels of Greek military expenditure may have partially contributed to this. This study is a preliminary empirical investigation into the economic effects of defence spending in Greece during the period 1963-1990.
