Abstract:
In this paper an attempt is made to assess methods of teaching vocabulary used in both first and second or foreign language classes. Emphasis is put on particular elements concerning factors affecting the procedure of learning vocabulary, such as learners ’ previous experience, intrinsic difficulty of the word and the role of the teacher, while suggestions are made for possible revision and re-adaptation of certain aspects of these methods in the light of contemporary research.
