Papadiamantis does not deal particularly with questions of law in his tales; he frequently coincidentally gives us information about the legal tradition of the period in which he wrote. The present investigation of legal elements in Papadiamantis’ work deals with the use of terminology, references to particular legal sources and with descriptions, all of which indicate a clear knowledge of the legal foundations of the time. The article then deals with a number of particular questions of civil law, as they arise from various extracts from the work of Papadiamantis.
