Abstract:
This paper is basically concerned with attempting to describe the syntactic structure of the ancient Greek ώσπερ +(« connected »)participle. In examining this construction the following points have been made: a) It seems to be the case that this participle is conditional in deep structure, b) The conditional meaning of the participle has nothing to do with the ώσπερ, and c) in surface stucture, the above the mentioned construction has a comparative function and the participle maintains its conditionality independently of the presence of ώσπερ.
