The author wishes to acknowledge that this study was made possible by permission of the VIth Ephorate of Prehistorical and Classical Antiquities.A first version of this paper was submitted to the Archaeological Receipts Fund, Directorate of Publications in April 2001. This revised version takes into account a comment by M. Kotsaki on the first version (see below p. 284), where she tried to justify her interpretation with a second error (elliptical shape of the sundial edge in the developed view). In the meantime the problem has been dealt with in the two following publications: M. Hüttig, Die antike “Kegelsonnenuhr” von Patras ist in Wahrheit eine Zylindersonnenuhr, Jahrestagung ties Österreichischen Astronomischen Vereins (Sept. 2001). F. de Vries, Kegelzonnewijzer of Elliptische Cylinder Zonnewijzer? Bulletin van de Zonnewijzerkring (2002) no. 2, pp. 24-27., Περιέχει σχέδια, Το άρθρο περιέχεται στο τεύχος: Μέρος Α'- Μελέτες
