The purpose of the paper is to present and describe the results of a research project based on classroom observation dealing with foreign language teachers’ attitudes to methodological innovations in the framework of non-hierarchical educational systems. As such we chose the case of teachers of the Italian language as it bears the following educational characteristics:1. absence of hierarchy and planning2. autonomy on the teacher ’s part in choosing his/her methods in teaching3. inertia in the adoption of new methodologiesIn the attempt to record the teachers’ attitudes and their resistance to methodological innovations we focused on various paramaters of their pedagogical act.
