Abstract:
The subject of this article is the partial restoration of the Late Archaic relief Μ. Ακρ. 120,depicting a Gigantomachy, by the addition of a new fragment discovered in May 1987 in a stone-pile west of the Erechtheum. The new fragment is a decisive addition to the head of Athena and gives us evidence for the outline of her face and the front part of the helmet and termination of the crest. On the occasion of this presentation of the new fragment, some more general thoughts are expressed about the iconography of the relief, its provenance, its architectural type and also its possible relation to the marble pediment of the ancient temple of Athena.
