Abstract:
The stele with index No. 8166 of Thessaloniki Museum, is presently exhibited at the Dion Museum and was found at the rural area of Kolindros-Pieria.It is a rectangular stele (0,84x0,50m), with a pedimental rectangularcrowning and relief within a tablet, framed by pillars and epistyle. The reliefrepresents as the main figure a horseman dressed like a soldier; he is holdinga bottle in his right hand. Facing him is a female figure seated on a stool. The two central figures are surrounded by young slaves. The representation’s theme is unusual for grave stelae up to the Hellenistic years, although the same figures isolated appear very early in Greek art.On the upper part of the stele shows the inscription ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΣ ΙΠΠΟΤΟΥ and on the epistyle of the tablet ΗΡΩΕΣ. The stele is dating from the late 2nd or early 1st C B.C.
