Abstract:
The present article deals with the situation of the Greeks in the area ofPhilippoupolis during the years 1860-1870. Based on official documents, andprivate correspondence it analyses the relation between the Ottoman government and the Greek population. In spite of the interventions of the GreekAmbassador in Constantinople, the strong protests of the Greek subjects,claiming the rights that the state had conceded to them, the whole of theGreek population of the region was obliged to emigrate, subsequently toacts of oppression which deprived the people of their nationality and realestate, to the interests of the Ottomans.
