Abstract:
The church of Ayios Minas is single spaced, wooden-roofed of small dimensions with semi-circular apsis, located on an early Christian church. In its present form the church doesn’t belong to a uniform construction phase. The apsis and the eastern wall belong to a single-spaced church dated from the 12 C. to the early 13 C. During the 15 C. the church is repaired and receives new decoration. The frescoes still in existence in the church of Ayios Minas belong to two periods. The elder ones belong to the late 12 C. early 13 C. and present up to now the only evidence in the nome of Kozani of the painting of late Komnenian period. The frescoes of the second period, which are related to workshops in Véroia, constitute an expression of an anti-classical movement of painting during the 15 C, of a provincial character and which, during this period, can be found in the frescoes of the churches Ayia Foteini and Ayia Anna in Véroia, as well as in the frescoes of Panayia Kondariotissa in Pieria and Ayioi Theodoroi in Servia.
