Abstract:
In this paper is presented an attempt, from a project concerning the investigation of the literacy of painters or, in general, of those that were resposible to write the inscriptions on the representations on church walls, as well as the dedicatory inscriptions, often extant. As an actual example is used the testimony of inscriptions existing in a group of monuments from the end of the 10th century in Mani. A comparison is made between the material from Mani and that of two monuments, approximately of the same date, located in Cappadocia.
