Abstract:
An analytical study of a signed icon of the Deesis by Angelos, in the Kanellopoulos Museum, with the enthroned Christ Pantocrator at the centre, flanked by the Virgin and St John the Baptist in supplication. The variations of the subject in fifteenth-century icons are examined and it is ascertained that on the basis of works by the painter an anthivolon was created, which was used subsequently by other painters, such as Nikolaos Tzafouris and Nikolaos Ritzos, and is disseminated in Cretan icons of the second half of the fifteenth century
