In this paper we propose an iconographic and stylistic study of the painted decoration of the south nave of the Archangelos church (Cemil, Ürgüp) dated to 1217/1218 by an inscription recently discovered in the apse, which mentions the painter Archigetas, the donors and the emperor Theodore I Laskaris. The stylistic similarities that the decoration of the Archangelos shares with other painted ensembles in Cappadocia allow their attribution to the same period, thus attesting to the artistic revival and the vitality of the Christian community under the Seldjuks.
