Abstract:
On the iconostasis in the church of St Matrona in Chora on the island of Kimolos are nine small icons with scenes from the Mariological cycle. These comprise a considerable part of a composite icon to which the small icon in the nearby church of the Taxiarchs (ΔXAE, XXVIII (2007) is also ascribed. The twelve surviving episodes make up a large part of the border of an impressive composite icon with the Virgin and Child at the centre. This work, of the late fifteenth century, was very possibly the model for iconographically affined composite icons now in the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens and the Zakynthos Museum.
