Abstract:
The Dominicum of the Skete of St. Demetrios belonging to the Vatopedi Monastery on Mt. Athos, formerly the katholikon of the Byzantine Monastery of Chalkeos, consists of the main church dated to the 11th century (cross-in-square church - complex four-columned type, “Athonite triconch type”, with side choirs and originally a two-story narthex), the lite and the exonarthex (restorations of the 18th century), as well as the chapel of St. Nicholas. The Byzantine katholikon is quite similar to the respective chapels of the Iviron and Vatopedi Monasteries and most likely was built slightly later than these.
