Abstract:
An excavation in the church of the Virgin ton Kastrianon at Palaio Pyli in Kos brought to light parts of marble pseudo-sarcophagi and closure slabs, placed in second use in Post-Byzantine graves. The sculptures are dated to the eleventh century, while one pseudo-sarcophagus carries an inscription with the exact date 1070/1071. This piece allows the re-examination of the present dating of the monument and its attribution to the building activity of Hosios Christodoulos, who arrived on the island in 1079/1080.
