Abstract:
The icon of St Andrew of Crete (160 x 69.5 x 2.5 cm.), now kept in the church of Christ Helkomenos in Monemvasia, was originally a door of a parabema in an unknown church. Its similarity to iconostasis doors by the Cretan painter Emmanuel Tzanes (c. 1610-1690), and in particular the door with St Gregory Palamas in the church of Sts Jason and Sosipater in Corfu (1654), permit the attribution of the work to this important seventeenth-century Cretan painter.
