Abstract:
A certain St. Romanos with the name Sklepodioktis, who has recently been interpreted as the protector and healer of horses, is found in the decoration of some churches in Crete, from the late 13th century until the 15th century. This paper outlines the development of the iconography of the saint in light of the influence of western art, through the reexamination of three known representations and the addition of new ones.
