Abstract:
The iconostasis of the katholikon of the monastery of St. Panteleimon in Agia (1579) consists of a combination of painted and relief slabs and is attributed to an emergent local workshop. Its decoration shows the influence of Islamic art, while an attached painted band with wavelike ends predominates. This band, in conjunction with iconographic and morphological data, is associated with liturgical references resulting from the initial dedication of the katholikon to the Presentation of the Virgin.
