Several recent excavations at the Lusitanian site of Conimbriga (central Portugal) have revealedconsistent public and domestic investment during post-Roman phases. One of the better preservedVisigothic buildings is of a defensive nature, and took advantage of both the hilltop and the existingLate Roman wall.
