Abstract:
There have been a number of review articles that focus on product development process but none on its early stage (Front End). The present paper first, reviews and categorizes the stages at the Front End drawn from the new product development (NPD) and the Front End literature and second, it uncovers, discusses and categorises the success factors at the Front End. The identification of the stages and the four Ps (Process, Place, Person and Product) success factors provides a theoretical framework that could prevent the organization from making mistakes during the early start. The paper also provides a clear implication for further research that could incorporate the comparison between the views of the academics with the views of experts who practice the Front End.
