Abstract:
In one of his articles, published in “Monde Diplomatique” under the title of “NATO, one of the instruments of the American hegemony”, Jean-Marie de la Gorce holds that nowadays all big international organisms are under the complete control of the USA, which do not hesitate to use and consult them only in order to promote their plans. In any other occasion, they have no moral scruples about bypassing them, as it happened recently in the case of Iraq. In fact, some people close to the American president have reached a point where they compare the recent “triumphs” of the United States of America in the field of foreign policy to the triumph of Rome in the Punic War II, which turned the empire into an international power. It is exactly this combination of structural changes, for example the collapse of actual existing socialism, or of the coincidental march of events, as for example the ascent in power of a small group of fanatic new-conservatives, that explains the reversal of roles: passing from progressives to reactionaries, from civilized to barbarians. However, the well-known professor of comparative literature in Columbia University in the USA,Edward Said, suggests another face of America, not only this with new-imperialistic trends in its leadership, but also this where different movements of socio-cultural resistance have started emerging. The examination of these new movements that take shape in an environment where every good American “patriot” should blindly follow and believe in the foreign policy of its leadership, shall be the subject of our research.
