In the present paper are analyzed some basic imperfections of the function and role of the public sector of the Greek economy and are examined their various negative effects on economic growth. The main imperfections are resulted by the huge public debt and high taxation rate, the intense public intervention, and the selfish behavior of politicians. The main negative effects of these weaknesses are drastic and various extending from the restriction of economic growth to the deterioration of the citizens' ethical standard through taxes' evasion and underground economic activities. For the eliminations of these imperfections and negative effects some direct and indirect measures are suggested and analyzed, such as the reduction of the bureaucratic intervention, the institutional restriction of the politicians' economic power, etc.
