The development of Greek Tourism during the period 1988-1977

The objective of the present work is to analyze the Greek Tourism during the decade 1988-1997 in relation to the Arrivals, the Overnights, the Nationalities of Visitors and the Seasonality. It is clear that the incoming tourism consists of both foreign and domestic tourists. All the Greek regions did not happen to have the same type of tourist development. We have different types of tourist development. The classification has been based upon some characteristics that play the role of a "catalyst" in the tourist development.These features are:1. The types of tourists that visit the specific destination2. The available resources and the degree to wish these can attract the tourists3. The level of services provided to tourists4. The stage of development, including the necessary infrastructure and number of employees and finally5. Local social groups, foreign tour operators, national tourism policies and the degree of their response to the potential changes brought about tourism.The interconnection of these factors result in a rapid and massive tourism developmentin Greece during the decade (1988 –1997). Finally a detailed analysis of the influence of the above factors on the Greek Tourism is also given.
