Author:
Abstract:
Iordanis Styloglou was born in Sparta of Asia Minor in 1875. He lived in Sparta until 1914 where he founded the first carpet factory. Another major contribution was the invention of designing the carpet on a millimeter paper. In this way the weavers could create carpets with great accuracy, based on the design. In 1914a severe earthquake forced him to move to Smyrna, along with many other inhabitants of Sparta, where he started anew his carpet business. After 1922 he moved to Greece and specifically in Athens where he developed, as well as other refugees from Asia Minor, activities not on carpet but on weaving industry along with his two sons Stavros and Konstantinos. Iordanis Styloglou died in 1948 in Athens.
