Parallel Title:
The dissertation of Holy Deacon Meletios Aristovoulos "On the supposed spititual authority of the Pope of Rome"
Abstract:
A study, submitted in 1862, by a student at the Theological Seminary of Halki, Meletios Aristovoulos Papaconstantinou, from a village called Rodoleivo of the Serres region, who later became the principal of the Abeteion School of Cairo. The study examines and criticizes the Papal Primacy and Infallibility, based on the theology and the practice of the ancient church, before the schism, when there was unity. It is indicative of the worldview formed in the Halki Theological Seminary, but also of the influence of the head of the seminary at the time, Constantine Typaldos-Iakovatos, over the thinking of his students.
