Abstract:
In the exhibition held during the period between April-July 2007, at the penthouse of the Pera Museum, were presented 72 photographs, a postcard and a folio of a printed album of the collection of Suna and Inan Kirac, that depicted the eminent Byzantine monuments of Constantinople. Curators of that exhibition were Zeynep Ögel and Giilru Tanman, who drafted and edited the printed Catalogue with an introduction by the author §amih Rifat. In this paper a more complex presentation of the subjects of this photographic material, signed by the most famous photographers at that time, is attempted in order for the unquestionable significance of the monuments not only to be justified, but also to illustrate the certain intentions of the artists that decisively were contributing to the discovery of Byzantium that was being carried out systematically in their time. At the same time, however, their fate was determined which for some of the monuments was extremely hard. By all that, the "immortalization" through the picture minimizes this loss.
