In this paper, some phonological points òf the unsophisticated language of Makryjiannis, the uneducated General of the Greek revolution in 1821, have been briefly examined. The general conclusions drawn from this examination are the lollowing : 1) There is no difference between the phonology of Makryjiannis' language and the phonology of modern Greek. 2) Simple texts written by uneducated people are usually the most valuable sources for the study of language, and 3) Knowledge of the modern scientific linguistic theories is required for a better understanding of some phonological processes.
