Three sections of the area of the sanctuary of Eukleia have been excavated in three successive seasons. Section I —eastern part— was excavated on 1982-83. The sanctuary wasidentified by an inscribed dedication of Euridice, daughter of Sirras, to Eukleia. Three more marble bases probably bearing similar dedications, now lost, were brought to light during the two-year campaign. They are all dated to the middle of the4th century B.C. or a bit later. The excavated architectural remains belong to a small temple facing north and a poorly preserved structure of the Hellenistic period which isolated the inscribed dedication from the rest. The south boundary of Section I is marked with a thick wall of a structure extended from east to west. A similar wall with the same orientation was discovered by the southern boundary of Section II in 1985. It occupied the western part of the area and was probably a retaining wall, supporting one of the terraces of the ancient city. Foundations of various buildings were also found in the northern part of Section II; the most important was a peristyle of unknown use.
