Abstract:
The foundations of buildings dated from the 4th century B.C. down to the 1stcentury A.D. were excavated in a field north of the theater and the sanctuary of Eukleia. The research started when a stone pipe of the 4th century B.C. was found; thisled to the discovery of a second pipe of Laconian tiles. Only part of the wall of the building which is related to the stone pipe has been excavated until now. A house consisting of two big rooms and three smaller (KII) was built in the foundation of building (KI) related to the pipe. The foundations of three stoai belonging to a third building (KIV) founded in the destruction layer of building KII were also discovered. Finally, a small building with a square courtyard (Kill) occupied the northeastern part of the previous building; five iron tools for stone working were discovered in one of the additional rooms of this last building. The excavational research of this area documents the building activities during five centuries: the building with the stone pipe was used from the early 4th century down to the mid-2nd century B.C.; in 168 B.C. —the collapse of the Macedonian Kingdom— the building was probably destroyed. During the reign of Augustus before the end of the 1st century B.C. building activities were revived. The size of the settlement shrinks and the abandonment of the city of Aigai starts
