Abstract:
The excavation of the Prehistoric settlement at Mandalo in 1987 aimed at the solution of problems referring to the form, shape and dating of the perimeter-wall of the settlement, which traverses diagonally the top of the mound running east to west. Two trial trenches in the foundation of the perimeter-wall yielded Late Neolithic pottery, thus indicating a dating to this period. The new trenches on the top of the mound revealed parts of the wall (1.40 m.high) running east to west, deviating to the north.Another trench (ΕΓ) was carried out on the top of the mound north of the perimeter-wall, aiming at the research of expansion of the settlement northwards. The excavation was restricted to the removal of the Early Bronze Age fillings. The excavation of 1987 was prolific and yielded much pottery and small finds.
