Abstract:
A cemetery with monumental chamber tombs, cist- and pit-graves dated to the Classical or Archaic period was discovered at «Leibadia», north from the settlement of Megale Rache. The tombs were looted in antiquity, except for a few pit-graves. Both the grave-offerings which were selected from the area and those found in the pit-graves suggest the prosperity of ancient Aiani, recording the history and civilization of the kingdom of Elimeia in Upper Macedonia, about which there is only scattered written evidence. The finds comprise sculpture (head of a ko re, body of a kouros, and a lion), Atticand Corinthian pottery, figurines, metal vases, jewellery and weapons.
