Abstract:
THERMI The Archaic and Classical cemetery of the settlement on the Table of Sedes (Thermi) was located in 1988 during building activities in the modern village of Thermi. Ninety nine burials basically placed inside cist- and pit-graves were excavated. There were groups of graves, most of them having piles of stones as sema. The orientation of the burials, the position of the skull in regards to the sex of the dead and the grave offerings(although most of the graves were looted in antiquity) recall the contemporary cemeteries of Sindos, Hagia Paraskevi and Vergina. SINDOS Part of the Classical cemetery located north from the ancient settlement on the Double Table at Sindos - Nea Anchialos (Iglis) was discovered during military activities. The most interesting graves were the cist-graves made of mud-bricks which provide evidence for their evolution from simple to more monumental forms in the period between the mid-5th to the mid-4th century B.C. The grave offerings do not suggest the economic prosperity of the settlement attested by the excavation of the Archaic and early Classical cemetery.
