Excavation at Arcadicos of Drama in 1991 : preliminary report on the organization and use of space on the basis of the distinction between rooms and open rooms

This paper suggests a method for the approach to the organization and the use of space on the basis of the distinction between rooms and open rooms. It is based on the examination of the Neolithic layers from the excavation at the Arcadicos of Drama in eastern Macedonia. The function of a room is defined by the following three factors (Binford 1983: 147-8):a) toolkit b) activity c) activity area The aim of the study is the description of the character of the research at the site and the need for a total assession and combination of the portable and importable finds, which usually lead beyond a strictly typological or technological study to catalogues of the finds as appendices at the end of a publication
