Excavations at Aghios Charalambos, Maroneia

The continuation of the excavation at Aghios Charalambos at Maroneia in 1991revealed the whole of a church dated to the 12th century B.C. To the north of the church a complex of domed buildings could be distinguished which have not yet been explored. The 12th century church was founded on the remains of an earlier church which is as yet almost completely unexplored. From the finds it would seem that the earlier church was built in the middle of the 9th century
