Abstract:
In 1990 the archaeological investigation of the agora of Pella was concentrated on the excavation of the archive and the western stoa (porch). An excavation was also carried out at the cemetery which had been discovered southeast from tithe excavation of the northern part of the archive, situated at the southwestern part of the agora, and of five rooms west from it, was carried out this year. A number of storage pots, such as pointed amphorae from Kos, Rhodes and Knidos, dated to VIA period (108-90 B.C.) were discovered in some of these rooms. The same destruction layer with that of the northern part of the building was discovered in the western stoa. To the south, the agricultural exploitation has destroyed the archaeological layers before the construction of the building. Three wells were also investigated without important results. The investigation of the cemetery southeast from the agora, where a parking area will be built, yielded evidence which was discussed in this paper: the description of the burials, the preparation of statistics of the burials, the categories of grave-goods etc. Adefixio, providing evidence about the local language before the koine, was among the finds of the cemetery.
