Abstract:
In 1990 a salvage excavation was carried out at an Early Bronze Age site in Polychrono of Chalcidice. The settlement is extended on terraces supported by strong retaining walls of stones. Two small constructions related to food processing activities were found on the terraces. The circular construction which interrupts the lowest terrace and has been interpreted as a ceramic kiln, was the most impressive find. According to the finds, it was made a few years after the retaining wall was abandoned. A great quantity of pottery, mainly fragments of big pots were found. Among them the variety of the relief decoration of the pithoi is distinctive. The trumpet shaped handles phialae, the phialae with incurved lip, the kantharoi, the mugs and feet of painted vases with a hole were also among the finds. The implements for the preparation of food, a grinding stone, a mill stone and other smaller ones were among the finds. The pottery dates this settlement to the end of the Early Bronze Age.
