Abstract:
During the excavational season of summer 1989, an oblong hoard of stones (20 m. long and 0,80-1 m. wide) was discovered west from the ancient theatre; it was interpreted as the filling of a part of the wall which ran from east to west and was in the same line with the small wall which is vertical to the western parodos (lateral entrance to the orchestra) of the theater. The inner and outer stone faces of this wall are missing, while the excavational data date it to the end of the 4th century B.C. The wall was destroyed in the Middle Ages. If our interpretation of this find is correct, we should assume that the palace and the theatre were distinguished from the Agora which is situated to the north, with this wall to the west of the theatre, and the natural hill to the east. On the other hand, the opening of the theater to the north related it to the other centre of the city, the Agora.
