Parallel Title:
The archaeological research on the island of Samothrake
Abstract:
The excavation of the upper citadel of «Vrichos» yielded part of a stone foundation of a circular (?) building. According to the archaeological data, no other construction was discovered in this area. On the basis of its decoration, pottery is related to the Babadag I group and dates to the 11th century B.C. The research at «Keramidaria» yielded a large rectangular area belonging to a group of workshops, two kilns, as well as fragments of various types of amphorae and1012 stamped handles, corresponding to 70 different stamps which were found in a deposit containing the refuse of the workshop. The discovery of the stamped handles implies the continuous production of this workshop throughout the period of use of the specific stamps, 60-70 years before 281 B.C.
