Parallel Title:
Excavation at the «Messemeriane Toumba» at Trilophos of Thessaloniki, 1992
Abstract:
The prehistoric settlement «Messemeriane Toumba» at Trilophos of Thessaloniki is well-known for its Middle Neolithic surface pottery which is the earliest in Central Macedonia. It is a mound located on a Neolithic settlement. This is a widely spread settlement pattern and in our case the surface pottery suggests constant habitation. The settlement has not undergone serious soil erosion, or destruction or intervention. In 1992 we started the excavation: the first trench (4x4 m.) was carried out at the highest point of the mound. The depth of the excavation reached 2m. from above, while the filling dates to the Iron Age and the Geometric Period
