Rescue excavation near Evangelismow in the province of Lagadas

In summer 2000, a brief rescue excavation was carried out in a hitherto unknown settlement in the hills N of the village of Evangelismos near Lagadas. Fifteen pits were excavated, with finds which date them to the Iron Age and the Middle Neolithic. Most of the pits were full of layers of rubble stones. Owing to the limited extent of the investigation, it is not possible to draw conclusions about what kind of settlement this was. However, it is interesting to know that there was such an early settlement in the area of the Lagadas lakes.
