Abstract:
During an excavation conducted by the 7th Arch. Ephorate in March - April 1971 at a site by Mazi — lying 2 klm. NW of the doric temple, which is held to be either the temple of Athena Skillountia or that of Artemis Daeda- leia — there was uncovered a cemetery dated evidently to the 4th cent.B C.The excavated area, measuring 6.48 X 8.00 m., includes three grave - enclosuresand 15 graves ( see plan 1 ). The enclosures are of the usual Π - shaped type found in cemeteries of the 4th cent. B.C. Four of the graves were cist—, the rest simple pit graves, all of them being covered with slabs. For all the structures there was used the local conglomerate. The black firnished pottery found in the graves is clearly dated to a period covering the whole 4th cent. B.C.
