Abstract:
1. Mycenaean Cemetery at MazarakataThis LH III B - C period cemetery was first excavated at the beginning of the last century. ( See finds in the De Bosset Collection, Neuchâtel Museum). Most of the vases of the systematic excavation conducted by P. Kavvadias at 1908, entered the Argostoli Museum and luckily survived the destructive earthquakes of 1953. Now they are re-exhibited in the new Archaeological Museum in Argostoli. The other finds ( bronzes, faience, etc. ), were brought to the National Museum at Athens, in the storerooms of which they were identified last year (fig. 2). It is planned that they will be transferred to Argostoli, and the whole group will soon see publication.2. Chamber Tomb at MetaxataA new chamber tomb ( no. ΣΤ' ) was excavated during 1973, adding to the other five already excavated by Prof. Marinatos. The most interesting find of the new excavations, besides the vases and the minor objects, was an undecorated stele. As signs of the positions for the fastening of such stelae were found at the beginning of the dromos (fig. 1 ), it is clear that the stele served as a marker to the tomb.
