Abstract:
In May 1991 a short excavation was carried out at Thymari, Palaia Phokaia, where there are ruins of an “isolated farm”. The square tower in the farm complex, measuring 6.34 X 6.34 m, was excavated. The use of the farmhouse dates to the period from 420 to 270 BC. The finds testify to a continuous and not seasonal habitation of the site, which comprises a hilly area some 200 stremmata in extent, suitable for cultivating olives. This farmstead is typical of other similar establishments that have been discovered in the districts of Thymari, Charaka and Legraina, where the ancient deme of Atene was located.
