Abstract:
During 1969 three marble statues have been found at Nikopolis:1) A small Herculaneum woman (figs. 1 - 2 ), measuring 1.53 m., may be compared to the daughter of Bal- bus, Nat. Mus. of Naples, no 6244, 1st half of the 1st century A.D. ( M. Bieber, Copies of the Herculaneum Women, p. 115, f. 8, in Pr. of Am. Ph. Soc. 106 ( 1962).2) A torso of a woman clad in chiton and himation, measuring 0.83 m. (fig. 3).3) A Hellenistic head (fi g. 4), 0.20 m. high, probably belongs to a group representing a fight. Michalitsi, district of PrevezaExcavation was continued round the funeral precinct found in 1963 ( AD 19 ( 1964): Chronika, pp. 305-9, Pis. 346 - 48 ) near the village Michalitsi. The rectangular pedestal was wholly revealed (4x 7.25m.) (fig. 5) and many architectural members have been found (fig. 6 ), probably belonging to a small naiskos built on it.A marble statue of a lion (fig. 7) measuring 1.21 m. was found; it probably belongs to the decade 330 - 320 B. C. ( Fr. Willemsen, Die Löwenkopf-Wasserspeier vom Dach des Zeustempels, 1959, pl. 63, p. 54). Fourteen graves have been excavated; among the finds, which are dated to the second half of the 4th century, there were the vases of figs. 8-10.
