Abstract:
On 13th of June 1980, 500 m. from the small port “ Artolithia” and 2 km SE. from the village Riza, region of Preveza, an unknown roman monument of the 3rd century A. D. was found on a hill. The building has three chambers. The main one ( 8 X 8.20 m. ) in better condition was covered with an umbrella - dome. It has four entrances, one in each side wall. The main was the south (5 m. large). It has inside sixsemicircular niches, four in the north side ( 1 X 0.60 X 1.75 m. ) and two in the south ( 0.95 X 0.50 x 1.65 m.).Its position on a well seen hill, in a beautiful landscape and its plan persuaded us that it was a nymphaeum in a private garden of a Roman landowner. The architect of the building found new architectural forms and planned a monument with many innovations.
