Abstract:
In the small collection of the town - hall in the village Polydrosso in Thesprotia, among several folkloristic items there is a bronze helmet of the “Jockey-cap” type (figs. 1 - 4 ).Helmets of this type have been found in gallic and etruscan tombs of the late 4th - 3rd c. B. C. in Italy, especially in the central part of it, in Sicily, Germany and Spain.Formerly they were thought as gallic. Recently after the discovery of helmets of this type with etruscan inscriptionson them it has been accepted, that they are etruscan, but their type has spread by trade and military movements all over Italy and other places mentioned above. The Polydrosso helmet is the first found in Greece, as far as I know. It dates from about the second quarter of the 3rd c. B. C. and most probably it bas been brought to Greece by a soldier of Pyrros’ army returning from the Italian expedition.
