Abstract:
The excavations of recent years in the districts under the authority of the Ephoria of Euboea have been particularly important. Some of the principal ones are mentioned in this note. There was an important excavation in Ancient Chalkis, the greater part of which has unfortunately been destroyed by modern building. In the part that is left remains of the city from the Geometric to the Byzantine periods were found, with roads, public buildings, baths and workshops. At Manika part of the Early Helladic settlement and cemetery was excavated; for the time this has been preserved, after a careful stratigraphical excavation was carried out.In the district of Eretria (Linovrochi) an important Early Helladic building was excavated and at «Plakakia» Mala- konda an important archaeological settlement, cemetery and probably temple, to judge from head of an «άρκτος», were found. Finally, at Skyros efforts were concentrated on the Late PG cemeteries that are scattered along the west side of the island, which show close ties with Lefkandi.
