The archaeological collection at Alexandroupolis

In September of 1976 the small collection of antiquities at Alexandroupolis was reorganized and went on show in the mezzanine of the town hall.The exhibits comprise sculpture and late grave monuments from the area1 (figs. 1 - 2 ) and two showcases with sherds of various periods, coins and dedications from the shrine of Demeter at Mesembria (figs. 3-4).Photographs, maps and plans, and texts giving information about the district are displayed on the walls.On the ground floor there is an exhibit of photographs of the monuments of the Evros district and plans and reconstructions of the site of the Sanctuary on Samothrace.
